Dolly Levi is a widow in her middle years who has decided to begin her life again. She is a matchmaker, meddler, opportunist, life-loving woman. Set at the turn of the 20th Century in Yonkers, New York, as well as New York City, this rousing musical follows Dolly as she tries to find romantic matches for others, but will she find one for herself as well?
The original Broadway production of Hello Dolly! ran for 2,844 performances from 1964-1970 and won many awards. With Carol Channing as Dolly, the musical swept the Tony's with awards in 10 categories in 1964.
Several other prominent actresses have played Dolly over the years including Ginger Rogers, Betty Grable and Pearl Bailey in an all black cast; and of course, Barbra Streisand starred in the movie in 1969.
